#trending in video - April 19, 2020

Happy Sunday and welcome back to another installment in our new blog series “#trending in video” by Best Made Videos®. This is our fun way to recap all of the fun and exciting news in the world of videography, video production, and more! Let’s see what’s on the docket today!!

Today we’re talking about 12 useful tips for first-time video content producers from our friends over at www.business2community.com, which is even more important now more than ever with the rise in video content and consumption across the internet.

First and foremost they talk about the importance of building a shot list, which is basically a checklist of the scenes that you will need to capture during your video session. They mention that creating video content can be messy, and worst time-consuming. Having a good blueprint of what you want and NEED to capture during your session can be the difference between success and failure in getting your message across to your audience.

Adding emotion to your video is also high on their list of important things to focus on when creating video content. According to the article, your target audience is exposed to an endless amount of content daily, its vital to stand out among the noise, and the best way to do that is to target their emotions. Surprise, awe and excitement are all great ways to improve engagement and increase brand awareness.

Creating the video content that your audience wants is number 3 on the list of things to keep in mind when creating video content. You need to create the types of videos that your audience is asking for. Delivering authentic content in video format is no different than through text or images, all of it gives value to the audience you are trying to target.

Adding subtitles to your videos is another great tip this article brings up. By making your videos more accessible, you increase the number of people and the number of ways that those people can enjoy your content. By making the videos more accessible, you increase the possibility of people sharing the videos as well, thus further growing your audience.

You need to have a clear strategy in place when it comes to creating videos. Your videos and the content that you create needs to reflect your audience, while also being relevant to them. You need to do proper research so you are aware the type of content that your audience is looking for, so you can tailor your videos in that direction.

Number 7 on their list, one that we should also keep in mind, is not to use “click bait” titles. According to Kelly Richardson of Infobrandz, “Though you have content related to the title, it still sends some wrong signals to the viewer about your content. These days people have so much exposure to data and they know how content marketers trick them for views.” Although vital to grab the attention of today’s audience, using titles merely create to grab momentary attention while not providing substance and value should be avoided at all costs.

One thing I always try to tell our video clients, and something that is also echoed in this article is to be natural. It’s really easy to get carried away trying to write a great script in fear that you will forget what to say. Having overly scripted content in your videos makes it feel unnatural and more like an advertisement rather than a valuable piece of content. You need to “Decide on your key message and speak conversationally. Even if it means having several takes, the outcome will be much more relatable.”

The final point this article brings up is to temper your expectations when it comes to the impact your videos will have. Everyone thinks that they are just one video away from creating the next big viral video campaign and that’s simply just not possible. Video is an important tool that businesses must utilize, but with realistic expectations. Even if you video doesn’t go viral, the impact to your business and the takeaway for you audience is what you’re really after and what you should really focus on at the end of the day.

Thanks again for checking out this latest installment in our #trending in video blog. I hope you found some valuable education tools related to the world of videography. Check back soon for another installment!!
