#trending in video - May 6, 2020

Good morning and happy Wednesday! Is everyone have a good week so far? Thanks again for checking out our #trending in video blog, hopefully this is an easy and convenient way to keep yourself updated on all of the trends in the ever-changing world of video production.

Today we are taking a look at an article from our friends over at Business2Community where they are breaking down what they call “8 Important Trends to Watch” in the world of videography and marketing,

They note that the digital marketing industry is in a constant state of flux with habits and demands shifting with each new release of technology. “For the first time ever, mobile advertising dominated web advertising, controlling nearly 75% of all ad spend. Not only is mobile where most people spend most of their time, but it is also where they purchase most of their digital purchases.” That’s a really staggering statistic and one that all brands must keep in mind when choosing how to spend their advertising dollars. Do I want to make a video for mobile, if I want to produce a video at all? Who is my target demographic and how can I best reach them? All important questions to ask your as you consider your video content strategy.

The first trend they touch on is influencer authority. “Content demands across the consumer landscape have shifted to wanting a more personal and authentic interaction with both brands and influencers. In fact, 58% of people have bought a new product in the past six months because of an influencer’s recommendation. With Instagram on the verge of removing likes, the influencer market will need to focus more on authenticity and product-market fit. This should increase the level of quality in the content provided.” How can you leverage this for your own brand? Create video content with influencers who you know and trust, but more importantly make sure you choose people who’s core value reflect that of your brand as well. People want and crave authenticity and they can always tell if someone is making a video for the love of the product or for the paycheck behind it.

Video content is the 2nd trend they touch on noting that “video content is now the holy grail of content marketing. Stories, as seen on Instagram and Facebook, have single-handedly crushed competitors such as Snap.” Another important note to keep in mind is that “researchers have also shown that people spend most of their time watching live videos as compared to pre-recorded ones. So the implication of that in marketing is something we can see in 2020.” I would argue that one shouldn’t rely ENTIRELY on live videos however, as I personally think the lifespan of these videos is short. Unless someone is watching the video live in the moment, the chances of them going back and revisiting that content later is low. By producing a mix of live and also short, more edited video content, ensures that people will watch most, if not all of the video. It also increases the chances of people sharing that video with their family and friends which I personally believe they are less likely to do with long, in the moment live videos.

The article touches on the use of VR and augmented reality which we have touched heavily upon in past issues of #trending in video. They note that VR is expected to become an almost $200 billion industry by 2025. Marketers are going to be able to leverage VR content along with traditional video content to simulate a shopping experience remotely. “With just a smartphone, people can be transformed into a digital experience that can be leveraged for commerce, education, and more.”

Some other important trends they note are voice search, mobile e-learning and social impact marketing. For us at Best Made Videos® a couple takeaways we have is the idea to implement captioning or subtitles in the video content that you create. Not only is that great for SEO and improving the quality of your website on the web, but you also make sure your video content is accessible for anyone who would choose to view it.

Although it can be overwhelming, it is super important to keep yourself and your company apprised of all the ever-shifting trends in the world of video marketing and online content creation. Making sure you leverage the newest tips and tricks in videography, VR, augmented reality and more, can ensure that your video content is fresh, timely, relevant and most importantly attention grabbing for the audience you are trying to attract.

Hopefully you found a useful tip or two today in our #trending in video blog. Thanks again as always and I hope you check back next time to delve back into our fascinating world of videography! Take care!!
