#trending in video - May 4, 2020

Good morning and happy Monday! Welcome back to #trending in video, our newest endeavor into the world of trending topics as it relates to video, video production, and more! Today we are diving into a fantastic article from our friends over at Forbes as they dive headfirst into the Five Technology Trends that are impacting our workplaces in 2020.

Beginning with a joke wondering about were our flying cars are, this article wants to talk about much more grounded technology, tools and innovations that although possibly existing for a while, at least in the world of video and video marketing, they’re increasingly being used in new and exciting ways. In some cases these new technological trends have even replaced old or outdated technologies already as larger brands and companies fight for their share of the global video marketplace.

Beginning with AI or Artificial Intelligence, the article notes how it’s one of the key driving forces behind modern video gaming as well as many other interactive video and non-video apps that the current marketplace is flocking to. Without AI, our smartphones wouldn’t be smart phones and would revert to their “dumb” state for lack of a better word. AI still has its share of controversy however, as a large portion of today’s workforce fears that AI-powered robots might replace our jobs. As it relates to us in the world of video production, this article predicts that the reality will fall somewhere in-between with some entry level jobs being phased out in favor of faster, automated AI driven systems.

Machine learning, is not too dissimilar from AI and is often used in tandem with the former. “Similar to AI, and often used in tandem with highly sophisticated AI systems, machine learning describes a computer's ability to understand and learn new things. This includes new actions that help it perform faster and more efficiently as time goes by.” This article notes that we’ve probably already benefits from machine learning as it comes to our smart phones, smart home appliances and other video related technologies that we use every day. “In the workforce, machines can learn new tasks on an assembly line, incorporate new safety standards or even perform jobs of increasing scope and responsibility.”

5G, which we’ve spoken about numerous times before here on the #trending in video blog, is going to be huge moving into 2021 and beyond for the world of video sharing, video streaming and more. “5G brings great improvements in speed, performance and reliability to mobile phone usage. Some estimates are forecasting that 5G will have 100 times the speed of 4G. In that context, it is easy to see how 5G will benefit the mobile workforce.” With these increased speeds and efficiencies, people will be able to share videos easier, stream video faster and this should have a ripple effect over our entire video production industry.

On a similar page to increased 5G connectivity, the faster speeds in which people can stream videos or download videos will also lead to a more mobile workforce as the average employee of any given business will be more likely equipped with a smartphone than ever before. “Supervisors and managers are even using social media, web-based content management systems (CMS) and online spreadsheets to stay connected with their workforce and monitor day-to-day productivity.”

It’s no surprise to us in the video industry, but the final trend that we are talking about today on the blog is the increased digitization of our content. “Much of this can be attributed to the rising use of smartphones, but it's not the only factor at play.” This article notes that “It seems like everything is being digitized in the 21st century. Magazines and journals are being replaced by interactive websites; traditional newsletters have been upgraded to email blasts; and most, if not all, marketing campaigns focus heavily on internet-based demographics. “ This is great for video producers such as Best Made Videos® which thrives on turning what would normally be written or spoken content into video. “Not only are more employers offering work-from-home opportunities than ever before, but some business models depend entirely on the internet to succeed. In either case, tech-savvy professionals who are comfortable working in online environments will continue to be in high demand in the coming months and years.”

Whether you choose to focus one or or many of these technological trends, it’s no surprise that the increased digital age is upon us. Whether it’s streaming videos to your phone or working remotely through the use of video conferencing services, the companies and brands that leverage this technology the smartest and most efficient will be the ones that thrive in the years to come.

Thanks again for clicking on the #trending in video blog, I hope you learned a thing or two about our “little” video world! Check back next time for more video production tips. Thanks again!!
